PATROLLER/OPERATOR - THUNDER BAY HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE

The Maintenance operator will work with the day to day field maintenance operations on all highway infrastructures within the Area Maintenance Contract. The Maintenance operator will also assist in the patrol for deficiencies throughout the Area Maintenance Contract.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform designated maintenance duties on all highway infrastructures as outlined in the new Area Maintenance Contract Performance Measures

  • Assist in the Investigation and respond to inquiries from the general public, external agencies, and liaise with Area Foreman to resolve problems

  • Assist with the identification of potential work order opportunities, and deficiencies within the AMC, reporting them to his Supervisor {Area Foreman)

  • Execute the work through the application of recognized human resources policies,

  • practices and administrative and safety procedures, and other related corporate guidelines

  • Review completed work; ensure appropriate documentation is completed

  • Maintain and conduct quality and environmental control measures

  • Facilitate a safe and healthy work environment

  • To maintain/clean equipment as required and conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs as required

  • When required participate in the winter works operations by filling in for Emergency Response during storm situations or by operating combination units and other snow removal equipment

  • Maintain accurate documentation including driver log books for any CVOR vehicles on a daily basis

  • Participates in the preparation and review of Performance Planning and Review documents for himself with his supervisor

  • As required, responds to emergency situations such as spills, accidents, incidents, inclement weather or implementations of the emergency plan

  • Follow the weekly on call rotation for emergency situations and calls. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Patrol/operate combination plow units and/or other snow removal equipment during the winter season as per the 24-hour patrol shift schedule

  • Work overtime in the event situations demand

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate coordination skills

  • Exceptional people skills are very important

  • Team builder and motivator

  • Good understanding of MTO Standards

  • Appreciation for a high level of efficient and quality work

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma or equivalent work experience would be an asset

  • Ability to communicate effectively with superior writing skills

  • DZ license

  • Knowledge of OTM Book 7 traffic control

  • Ability to work shift work on a regular basis

  • Experience in highway maintenance and emergency response is an asset
